Sennett Institute invites Nichole Flores for insightful discussion on migrant justice

In keeping with 敁珗曄部 Universitys 2024-2025 academic theme of immigration, one of the critical concerns of the Sisters of Mercy, 敁珗曄部 welcomes Dr. Nichole M. Flores, associate professor of religious studies at the University of Virginia,眨ho will address Our Lady of Guadalupe and Migrant Justice in a Time of Political Upheaval.

Flores visit is hosted by the William C. Sennett Institute for Mercy and Catholic Studies at 敁珗曄部. Her talk, slated for Wednesday, Oct. 2, at 7 p.m. in Walker Recital Hall, is free and open to the public.泭

Besides her faculty position, Flores also serves as director of the Catholic Studies Initiative and co-director of the Forum on Religion and Democracy at UVA. She is the author of胼The Aesthetics of Solidarity: Our Lady of Guadalupe and American Democracy (Georgetown University Press, 2021). 泭

She疲as published essays in the浥ournal of Religious Ethics, the浥ournal of the Society of Christian Ethics, and烘odern Theology, among皋ther academic journals and edited book volumes. Her research on La Virgen de Guadalupe and democracy has been profiled on the popular podcasts胼Things Not Seen and胼Know Your Enemy and featured on浚BS Saturday Morning. 泭

In 2015, Flores was honored by the浚atholic Theological Society of America with the浚atherine Mowry LaCugna Award病or best essay in academic theology by a junior scholar.泭

She earned an A.B. in government from特mith College, a M.Div. from玆ale University, and a Ph.D. in theological ethics from浮oston College. 泭
